2009 New Works Winner Playwright Jamuna Yvette Sirker

MultiStages 2009 New Works Contest winner, Hell and High Water or Lessons for When the Sky Falls is based on playwright's Jamuna Yvette Sirker's personal experience as one of many residents who was displaced by the devastation of New Orleans' Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005.

Sirker's searing vision is a unique multimedia mix of realism and the supernatural, in the midst of chaos, loss, and tragedy, skillfully woven into the ongoing consequences from the New Orleans disaster - horror and humor from Katrina's Ground Zero.

The play, directed by Peress, premiered this past spring at NYC's Hudson Theatre and received rave reviews for the entire cast and creative team. Sirker, recently worked as artistic director / choreographer for WAM Theatre's Melancholy Play by playwright Sarah Ruhl.
